ICC World Cup 2023: Sri Lanka Out of World Cup After Bangladesh Defeat

New Delhi: The 38th ODI World Cup match is held between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh on 6th November 2023 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. In that match, Sri Lanka lost against Bangladesh by 3 wickets. With that loss, Sri Lanka was officially eliminated from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Tournament.

Till now, the Sri Lanka team has played 8 matches in the ICC World Cup 2023 tournament. Out of 8, they won only 2 matches. Thus they are not qualified for the semifinals. In yesterday’s match, Bangladesh scored 282 runs with 7 wickets in 41 overs and Sri Lanka scored 279 runs for all out.

Sri Lanka is the third team which be eliminated from the ODI World Cup 2023. The other two teams that are not qualified for the WC semis are Bangladesh and England. This win is Bangladesh’s first win over Sri Lanka in five attempts at the ICC World Cup and this also keeps them afloat for a spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Sri Lanka is out and they are now in a little bit of danger of not qualifying for the Champions Trophy.

Sri Lanka’s batsman Charith Asalanka hit a century against Bangladesh thus he helped them to score 279 in 49.3 overs.  After winning the game, Shakib AI Hasan was awarded the Man of the Match title in the Bangladesh team.
