Can Pakistan still qualify for Super 8 after loss against India

T20 World Cup 2024 Pakistan Qualification Scenario: Pakistan have lost both T20 WC matches so far and it does not do them any good for their hopes of qualifying for the Super 8 stage. After facing a shocking defeat to co-hosts USA in their first World Cup match, Men in Green lost yet another match to their arch-rivals India which turned out to be another shocking loss.

Pakistan had their noses ahead for most of the time in the India vs Pakistan match on Sunday, but eventually lost the game by 6 runs, thanks to a brilliant bowling by Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

Pakistan have only 0 points after 2 matches, and their chances of qualifying for the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 look slim. The team must win their remaining matches against Canada and Ireland.

Also, they need either India or the USA to lose their next two matches. They also hope that the India vs USA match on June 12 isn’t washed out, as a washout would result in both teams getting a point and qualifying. Finally, they need Canada to lose against India, or if Canada wins, they must have a worse Net Run Rate than Pakistan.

Even if Pakistan win both matches and the USA loses their remaining matches, qualification for the Super 8 stage will hinge on Net Run Rate (NRR). Both teams would have 4 points from 4 matches, meaning Pakistan would need several favourable results.

Pakistan Lose Yet Another India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup Match

Pakistan’s bowlers put up a stellar performance, bowling out India for just 119. Rishabh Pant’s cameo of 42 was the standout, as the rest of the batting lineup struggled. From Pakistan, Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah took 3 wickets each, while Mohammad Amir took 2 wickets.

Chasing a target of 119, Pakistan lost Babar Azam early, but Mohammad Rizwan’s 31 runs kept the innings going. Pakistan appeared to be cruising to a win at 72-2, but a shocking collapse saw them lose the game. They managed only 40 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the last 46 balls.

From India, Jasprit Bumrah was the hero, delivering a magnificent spell of 4-13 in four overs, earning the man of the match award. Hardik Pandya also contributed, picking up 2 wickets for 24 runs. With the loss, Pakistan’s record against India at the T20 World Cup stands at 7-1, with them winning just one match in the history of the ICC event.
