The new operating system launched by Microsoft that is the Windows 11 operating system, has made significant improvements in aspects of design, display, speed, performance, etc., compared to the older Windows 10 version. How to Move the Taskbar to the Top in Windows 11 PC?

The registry editor can help move the taskbar location to the top, but it cannot move it left or right. This is evident in Microsoft’s deprecated features for the Windows 11 Operating System. The original display created by Microsoft of the taskbar is considered fabulous, but it can be made more handy and convenient for use if moved to the top.

Now, if you are interested in trying out this to change your display setup or to just make it more convenient, you can follow the steps mentioned below:

• Click on the Windows button available.
• Select the Run option from the list available.
• Then proceed to type ‘regedit’ and click on the ‘OK’ button.
• The UAC window might prompt, and that’s when you have to select the ‘YES’ option.
• Once you have reached the Registry Editor Tool, you will have to navigate the following route-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects3​

When you navigate the route, you can find the REG_Binary file on the right pane under the name of ‘settings.’
Select the ‘Modify Binary Data ‘ option, which you can find when you click on the settings file previously mentioned
Once you click on ‘ Modify Binary Data,’ a new pop-up window will open up, and you will notice a few rows and columns that are present

• Now, all these rows and columns have pre-defined values.
• You need to mark the row – 00000008 and keep scrolling down until you reach the column “FE.”
• The default value will be set at 03, which you will need to change to 01 to change the location of the taskbar
• Then go on to click the ‘OK’ button.

Side note: By changing the value to 01, you will be moving the taskbar on your device from the bottom to the top of your screen. But in case this doesn’t work, you can try entering 02 or 04 as the value.

• Once you have completed these steps and modified the Reg file, you have to restart your File explorer to save the changes made to make it all compelling.

How to Move Windows 11 Taskbar Location to Left, Right, Top, Bottom?

How to Restart the File Explorer?

• Click on the keys (Ctrl + Alt + Del) for opening the settings.
• Select the Task Manager option available.
• On the next screen, you can head over to the processes tab.
• Then proceed to scroll down to File Explorer and then click on it.
• Select the Restart option.
• This should enable your device to move the location of the taskbar to the top position.

If you wish to undo the recent changes that you made, you will have to re-visit the registry editor tool. Then change the value to “03” instead of “01” in the 00000008 rows and the ‘FE’ column.

How to Change Taskbar Location to the Left or Right on Windows 11?

Note: There is a slight chance that the taskbar won’t function properly if it is moved to the right or left as it is not supported by the new operating system.

Alternate Method: Opening the Registry Editor

It would be to go to the start menu. Then search the word ‘Registry’ and then select the ‘Registry Editor‘ option.

Proceed to navigate this route. When you are at the Registry Editor, you can just copy/paste it in the address line at the top of the window:

• Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects3
• Then click twice on the ‘settings’ button present in “StuckRects3”
• This will open the “Edit Binary Value” window.
• You can then have to locate the fifth value present from the left on the second row from top

This value is usually set to “03”. So you will have to change it in order to change the location of the taskbar. That value is what determines the location of the taskbar.

• If you wish to change the location of the taskbar on your device to the right side you can proceed to change the value to “02”
• If you wish to change the location of the taskbar on your device to the left side you can proceed to change the value to “00”
• Once you are done putting in the value of your desired position just click on the OK button present on the screen.
• Then proceed to close the registry editor and restart your windows explorer.

You can do so by following the below-mentioned steps:

• Press the ( Ctrl + Shift + Esc ) keys
• This will open the Task Manager tab
• Click on the “More Details“ button if it is required to expand the tab. That is in order to find the “processes “ option.
• Then locate the “windows explorer” option in the list and select it
• Then click on restart.

Important note: All these steps mentioned above to change the location of the taskbar are only for single-monitor setups. You can also change the location of the taskbar on multiple monitors. You will have to follow the same steps and edit the values on every desired monitor.
