What is a System Restore Point?

The restore point is a snapshot of the current Windows installation present on your computer. You can look at the System Protection settings by simply following the below-mentioned steps:

  • Click on the ‘Windows + I’ keys. This shall navigate you onto the Settings page.
  • You can then click on the System option available on the left pane.
  • Next, head to the corresponding right section.
  • You can then find the About option after scrolling down to the last option present on that tab.
  • You can then proceed to expand the About option.
  • Select the “System Protection” link beside the “Related Links” option under Device Specifications.
  • Click on the link, and the system properties tab should open up.
  • You will find All the settings related to System Restore in this tab present on your device screen.

How to Turn on the System Protection for any Particular Disc?

Once you have found the System restore point settings, you can quickly check the current status of the disk drives on your device. Now, if “protection” reads off for all your disk drives, you need to select the root drive and select the configure option.

Note: If you want to turn on the protection for any other disk drive, you simply need to select that drive and click on the configure option.

  • If you have chosen the route to drive, that is the ‘C:\.’
  • Under the ‘restore settings,’ you can enable the radio button that is available to the left of the settings.
  • You can then switch on the System Protection.
  • Now under the ‘disk space usage,’ you can move the slider to the right.
  • By doing this, driving the slider, you are basically adjusting the disk space that you will want to reserve for creating and storing the restore points.
  • Then click on the apply option present and then hit okay to save the changes you have made so far.
  • Once the changes are saved, your System will create a restore point from time to time on the enabled disk drive

How to Manually create a System Restore Point on your Windows 11 Device?

Your device most probably might be utterly efficient in generating Restore Points from time to time automatically, but you can choose to do this task manually as well. You can ensure creating a backup like this whenever you think of making progressive changes on your device.

  • Follow the below-mentioned steps to create a System Restore Point manually on your Windows 11 device
  • If you are already on the System Properties window, all you have to do is click on the Create button
  • This will navigate you to a pop-up window in which you have to fill in today’s date and then press on the create option available.
  • Then, the System will generate your restore point request on the Windows 7 operating system
  • Once this process is over, you will receive a message that says, “The restore point was created successfully” or something similar.
  • You can then select the close options present and end the pop-up window.
  • Then restart your device to save all the new changes made.

Important tip: It is not recommended to create a Restore Point in case you are already facing issues with your device because, in the time of need, you may end up using the same corrupted backup, which is something you want to avoid.
How to use previously created restore points to fix your problematic device

Using a previously generated restore point is an essential aspect of system protection to revert the operating system. There are two methods of approach that you can try out in the various situations of bugging.

1. By Using local settings (Normal Settings)

This method is relatively common and reliable. You can restore your System if you face trouble like bugs or any other issue on your device. But the steps will only work if you can get past the login screen. Just follow the steps mentioned below to try this method –

  • By pressing on the (W + I ) keys, open the Settings window.
  • Select the ‘About’ option.
  • And then proceed to select ‘system protection.’
  • When you have the system properties window open, you need to click on the System Restore option
  • Click on the ‘Next’ option to move ahead.
  • You can then select to restore point from the list available to which you would want to go back.
  • Then scan to know the affected programs; this might take some time, so you might have to wait a while.
  • If the scan as mentioned earlier does not support any issues that you may have to deal with, you can move forward by clicking on the next option.
  • On the next/subsequent screen, you will find all the relevant details that you may need to go through and ponder upon. It is not uncommon for a device to report any preconditions moving forward.
  • Once you have read the instructions, you can click the finish option present.
  • The System will then proceed to reset your device and make it reach a point where your device was working normally.
  • This entire process of reverting back your device is time-consuming, so you might have to wait.
  • Once it’s over, you will boot into your Windows 7 operating system like you usually world without getting into any bugs or errors.

2. By using Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) )(When your device cannot boot automatically)

There might be times when you won’t be able to boot into your device, and you would probably end up receiving blue or black ‘death errors’. In such times you can opt for using the WinRE Environment to restore your device easily
Follow the below-mentioned steps to try this method –

  • Step one has to be to boot into safe mode as you won’t be able to sign in to Windows 11.
  • You can also shut down and restart your computer a couple of times to launch the Advanced Repair settings.
  • Once you are at the Windows Recovery Environment screen, you have to click on the ‘troubleshoot’ option present.
  • Then click on the ‘Advanced Options’ button followed by the ‘System Restore’ option.
  • If you use any kind of password/pass key to log into your device, you might have to use it again.
  • Then another window, i.e., the system properties window, will open.
  • You can then simply follow the on-screen instructions present to complete the procedure.
