Methods to Turn Off Snap Layouts in Windows 11

1. How to disable the snap layouts feature in your Windows 11 Device

By default, this snap layouts feature is enabled on the new operating system that is the windows 11 operating system. This feature is set to help the user confine a running window into a pre-allotted space on the desktop screen, which is a great tool for users who like to multitask. However, even though this feature is enabled by default on your Windows 11 device, it is completely up to the user if they want it running or not, so a user can disable the feature if they don’t find it convenient.

  • Click on the ( Win + I ) keys to open the Settings Menu.
  • Expand the Settings tab
  • Look for ‘Multitasking‘ and click on it to expand it as a new tab.
  • Multitasking is usually found under the left column.
  • You then have to uncheck the box to the left of the “Show Snap layout when I have over a Windows Maximise Button” option. Show Snap can find this option under the Work with Multiple windows section.
  • Once you have completed the steps, the layout will get disabled effective immediately, but you can check this by hovering your mouse pointer (cursor) over the maximize button.

2. How to re-enable the snap flyout feature from maximizing button in your Windows 11 device?

If you desire to re-enable this feature on your device, you can perform the steps mentioned below –

  • Click on the (Win + X) keys, and once the PowerMenu opens, you need to select the Settings option.
  • Once you are at the Settings tab, select the multitasking option present. This option is usually found under the left column.
  • You can then proceed to mark the check box that you had previously disabled, that is, the “show snap layouts when I hover over the windows maximize button” checkbox.
  • The changes made will be effective immediately, and you can check it by simply having your car so over to maximize button, and you will find that the Snap Layouts have been re-enabled.

3. How to enable or disable the snap layouts feature on your Windows 11 device via the Registry Editor tool?

Modifying the Registry editor is another way to enable or disable Snap fly out other than the regular settings route. If you happen to be interested in trying out this method via Registry editor, you may follow the below-mentioned guidelines –

  • Press the ( Win + R ) keys and then type the text ‘Regedit’ now.
  • This will navigate you to the Registry Editor present on your Windows 11 device after you press on ‘ Enter ‘
  • Once you are at the registry, you will have to navigate the following text- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
  • A key entry named “ EnableSnapAssistFlyout” will be located under the right pane
  • In case you could not find any such entry, you need to right-click anywhere and select the ‘new’ option and then select the DWORD ( 32-bit ) value present there.
  • You can then rename this newly created key as “EnableSnapAssitFlyout.”
  • Proceed to click on this key, and you can either put the value 0 or 1 inside the value date of the field. The 0 implies ‘ disable ‘, and the one implies ‘enable’.
  • You can then restart your device, and the Snap Layout Feature will get modified as per the configuration you have chosen.

4. How to disable the whole snap windows via the Registry editor tool?

If you desire to disable the whole snap windows, you must modify the “WindowArrangementActive” string.
Now, this is a REG_SZ entry. Basically and it is responsible for following operations on your Windows operating system.
Mentioned below are the steps you can use to disable the whole snap windows feature using the Registry editor tool-

  • Press on the ( Win + R ) keys and then type ‘ Regedit ‘ to open the Registry Editor tool.
  • You will then have to browse the below-mentioned location once you are in the Registry editor tool –

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

  • Once you have located this file, you just have to right-click on it and then select the ‘Properties’ option that is present.
  • Proceed to type “0“ if you want to disable Snap Flyout for maximizing button in windows 11, but if you want to re-enable it, you will have to type “1” instead.
  • Once you have entered the desired configuration, you can select the OK option.

The changes will be effective immediately, and you can check it by simply hovering your cursor over the maximize button as you did the previous times.
