Harbhajan Singh calls Kamran Akmal Nalayak After Receiving an apology

Harbhajan Singh lashed out at Kamran Akmal’s offensive comment on the Sikh community. The former Indian off-spinner had received a public apology from Akmal a day earlier.

During the India vs Pakistan ICC T20 World Cup 2024 match, Akmal, who was part of ARY News panel, made shocking remark about the religion of Indian player Arshdeep Singh, who bowled the final over of the match.

“Kuch bhi ho sakta hai… Dekhein last over karna Arshdeep Singh ne hai. Waise uska rhythm nahi laga. 12 bajj gaye hai, (Anything can happen, Arshdeep Singh will be bowling the final over, but he hasn’t looked to be in great rhythm. And it’s already 12 o’clock),” Akmal had said.

Facing heavy criticism from cricket veterans like Harbhajan, Akmal promptly apologized and expressed deep remorse.

“I deeply regret my recent comments and sincerely apologise to Harbhajan Singh and the Sikh community. My words were inappropriate and disrespectful. I have the utmost respect for Sikhs all over the world and never intended to hurt anyone. I am truly sorry.”

Harbhajan sternly reprimanded Akmal, warning him to be more cautious with his words going forward.

“Kamran Akmal’s statement was absurd and childish. The kind of thing only a ‘Nalayak’ (fool) would say. He should understand that it is unacceptable to make such remarks about someone’s religion. I would like to ask Kamran Akmal if he is aware of the history and contributions of the Sikh community, who have worked tirelessly to protect people, including the women of his community,” said Harbhajan.

“Go and ask your ancestors, the Sikhs attacked Mughals at 12 and rescued your mothers and sisters. While it’s positive that he quickly understood and apologized, they must never again attempt to harm Sikhs or any other religious group. We respect the diversity of faiths, including Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, and Christianity,” he continued.
