Pat Cummins nominated for ICC men’s Player of the Month award for December following Pakistan clean-sweep

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has today announced the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards nominees for December 2023. The shortlist contains 3 top performances from key ICC World Test Championship clashes last month.

The Women’s Player of Month celebrates an Indian batting and bowling dup plus the hero of Zimbabwe’s T20 World Cup Qualifier triumph. The Men’s Player of the Month contains the Australian captain, New Zealand’s player and Bangladesh’s player.

Australian captain Pat Cummins is one among three players to be nominated for the ICC POMT for December. Along with Cummins, New Zealand’s Green Phillips and Bangladesh’s Taijul Islam have also been nominated.

ICC Men’s Player of the Month Nominees for December

Pat Cummins (Australia)

Cummins finished 2023 in a great fashion, guiding his side to a clean sweep over Pakistan in a three-match home Test series, having won the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in November in India.

Cummins made a significant impact from the opening match onwards in the Test series against Pakistan. His performance led Australia to a thrilling victory, with the bowler claiming three wickets.

Tajjul Islam (Bangladesh)

The left-arm spinner Tajjul claimed 6 wickets to help Bangladesh to a 150-run win against New Zealand in the first match of their Test series. Despite a series loss, Tajjul emerged a hero, taking 15 wickets and earning him Player of the Series honour.

Green Phillips (New Zealand)

Green was known for his aggressive batting and wicketkeeping skills and displayed his exceptional all-round talent against Bangladesh. His stellar performance earned him the Player of the Month award in the second Test, and he emerged as his team’s top scorer in the series.

ICC Women’s Player of the Month Nominees for December

Precious Marange (Zimbabwe)

ZIM’s veteran bowler enjoyed a career-defending series of performances in December month. She took 2 wickets in the opening match against Kenya followed by a wicket-less performance against Botswana.

Later, Marange awarded three successive Player of the Match titles, by taking 3 for 13 against Tanzania, 3 for 9 against Namibia, and 5 for 7 against Uganda.

Deepti Sharma (India)

The all-rounder Deepti was also a major player in India’s Test and ODI outings during December. The Test victory against England was a particular highlight for Sharma, striking 67 and 20 with the bat as well as taking 9 wickets.

Jemimah Rodrigues (India)

She showed impressive batting skills in all formats of the game. A modest start to the month in T20Is was followed by a classy first-innings knock of 70 plus in India’s two Test victories over England and Australia.

ICC Player of Month Voting Process

Every player was shortlisted based on performances from the 1 to the 31st day of December. They are shortlisted by the voting from the independent ICC Voting Academy and fans around the globe.
