World Cup Semifinal Qualification Scenarios for All Teams

India

India has already qualified for the semifinals by winning all 7 games they have played.

Australia

Australis is left with 3 matches in the tournament for entry into the semifinals. They have to face England, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Considering England and Bangladesh’s form, Australia will secure a position in the semis but the match against Afghanistan can be tricky.

If Australia loses any one or two of the games, its run rate will come down and if New Zealand, Pakistan and Afghanistan manage to win one or more games, then it will be a four-way tie for the remaining two positions for the semis.

Pakistan

Babar Azam and Co bounced back well with a big win against Bangladesh but they still have a tough path to get entry into the semifinals. Pakistan have to win the remaining two games with New Zealand and England and Australia has to lose all three games, New Zealand lost at least one game. If all these happen, then Pakistan will be in semis.

South Africa

SAs have to win one out of the two matches to become eligible for the semifinals. They have to face India and Afghanistan next.

New Zealand

They have started the tournament on a high but now they are in a critical position to qualify for the semifinals. They had to win against Pakistan and Afghanistan to enter into the semis. However, one loss means the Kiwis will get in a position like Pakistan and Afghanistan for a superior run rate.

Sri Lanka

They have recently lost against India, but they even have chances to get into the last four by winning the other two matches. For that to happen, New Zealand and Australia have to lose all their matches or at least one team does. They also have to keep an eye on Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands and hope they do not win other games.

Afghanistan

Afghanistan have the best chance to make the semis. By winning all the remaining three games they can go up to 12 points and then the run rate equation will come into play. But if Afghanistan wins one of their games, some favourable results and a run rate better than Australia and New Zealand could see the Asian team make the last four.

England

England has to win their remaining three games with big margins and hope New Zealand and Australia lose their games. They also have to keep an eye on Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands and hope no one should win the remaining games. In that way, most teams will be on 8 points as England and then run rate comes into the equation.

Netherlands

With 4 points, they can go up to 10 points by winning all the remaining games and then focus on the run rate just like Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. But for that to happen, Australia and New Zealand lose their remaining matches. However, the team have a tough task with three opponents such as Afghanistan, England and India.
