Jay Shah Rejected the Claims on BCCI Approached Aussies For Coach Job: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah on May 24, 2024, Friday rejected claims that the Board has approached any former Australian cricketer to be India’s next head coach.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah also said that having in-depth knowledge of Indian domestic cricket is one of the important criteria for appointing the next coach.

Recently, BCCI announced about head coach job and also gave the deadline till May 27. Presently, Rahul Dravid is serving as the head coach for the India team, but as his tenure is going to end he is going to leave the position after T20 World Cup 2024.

And for that position, many of the cricket legends suggested many of the cricketers, Ponting on May 23, Thursday had claimed that he was approached to take over the role but said that he declined as it did not fit with his “lifestyle” right now.

But BCCI secretary Jay Shah seriously rejected that news he said that, BCCI has not approached any Australian Cricketer for the India head coach job till now.

In a statement, Jay Shah said that,

“Neither I nor the BCCI have approached any former Australian cricketer with a coaching offer. The reports circulating in certain media sections are completely incorrect.

Finding the right coach for our national team is a meticulous and thorough process. We are focused on identifying individuals who possess a deep understanding of the Indian cricket structure and have risen through the ranks.

Our coach must have an in-depth knowledge of our domestic cricket framework to truly elevate Team India to the next level.”

The head coach position was taken up by Rahul Dravid after Ravi Shastri left the position after T20 World Cup 2021 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
