KL Rahul responds on social media trolls: “One who is hailing me today was abusing me few months back”

Star India wicketkeeper cum batter KL Rahul has shared his opinion on social media trolls after scoring a century in the Centurion test match. He has received appreciation for his performances, and Rahul has also been receiving unacceptable trolls on social media on his off days.

Rahul said answered all those critics with his sensational century in the ongoing Test against South Africa at Centurion. However, instead of taking a dig back at his trolls, he believes in letting his bat do all the talking.

After the end of the game on December 27 (Day 2), while addressing the media, the right-hander was asked whether he ever felt like responding to trolls on social media.

“What will I achieve [by] doing that? Logon ko jo bolna hoga bolenge [People will say what they want to]. If you are a public performer, performance is your only yardstick to stay away from criticism,” KL Rahul said.

“One who is hailing me today was abusing me some months back. Anyone who says he isn’t affected by comments on social media is lying. But the more you stay away, the better it is for your mindset,” he added.

Rahul hit 101 runs in 137 balls against South Africa, having arrived at the crease in a pressure situation for his side. He addresses inquiries about the criticism of his performance, notably from the general public.

“As a person, as a cricketer, as an individual, you are challenged each day, each moment. Social media is a pressure. Today I have scored a hundred so people are singing praises. Three, or four months ago, everybody was abusing me. It’s part of the game, but I can’t say it doesn’t affect you. It does.

“The sooner you realise that staying away from it is good for your game and your mindset the better it is,” Rahul was quoted by ICC.

KL Rahul hit a century-long back during IPL 2023. A hundred against Pakistan in the Asia Cup was followed by an incredible 2023 World Cup and the Centurion hundred is just the perfect icing on the cake.

Rahul said that while he was away from the game, he worked a lot on himself as a person. He told: “When you play international cricket, you are not only challenged as a player but also as a person because you have a personality. So, when I was away from the game, I worked on myself as a person. Obviously, there were people to help me.”

KL Rahul’s sensational hundred allowed India to get a fighting total of 245. However, the Proeas are ahead by 11 runs after the end of Day 2 and still have 5 wickets in hand.
