Uses of Skype
Skype was at its peak when it came out and has been popular ever since. It is generally used for video calling, but it has seen use for cloud PBX, business phone systems, and a lot more. But it has a lot of ads, and there is no way to remove or block Skype ads. Even if you look at it from the side of the Skype software developers, no steps are going to be taken to remove these ads because it is one of their sources of revenue.
But there is a way to remove or block Skype ads completely, and we will be looking at that in this article. But how would that work on Skype?
How does it Work?
Skype is an application that is very popular, and you can use it to send loads of free messages and make free voice and video calls all over the world to your friends and family. It sees use for business as well as personal usage. This is an application that has worked quite well over the years, but the fact is that it has become heavy and more data-consuming once the advertisements have begun to appear.
It is a very user-friendly and simple software, but ads are an issue. Ads take up a significant portion of the app, and this can be a great inconvenience and hindrance when you’re chatting with your friends and are typing out the messages.
If you would like to remove or block Skype ads, then this article will help you do just that on your Windows system. We will be looking at two different ways that this is possible on Skype.

In this case, you just need to follow what is given in the second method.
Method-2: How to Remove Skype Ads Placeholder in Latest Version
If the method given above did not help to remove or block Skype ads, then you can follow the alternative method given here. For this method as well, just be sure to follow the step-by-step instructions given below so that you won’t have issues with ads again.
Step 1: Open up the Skype application and be sure that it has been updated to the latest available version. So, this is what you need to check first, and so you need to go to the ‘Help’ menu from where you need to select the option that says ‘Check for Updates.’ If you are already using the latest version of Skype, then the message will say exactly this. If not, please update the application.
Step 2: The next thing to do is to go to the ‘My Computer’ window and then go to the button that says ‘Organise,’ on the left side. Then go to ‘Folder Option,’ and this will cause a new window to appear where you need to select ‘View.’ Once you’ve done this, the button you need to press is ‘ Show Hidden Files, Folders or Drives.’ Press ‘OK ’ after all of this so that you can save the settings changes that you just made.

Click on then and then go to the option that says ‘App Data.’ Then you need to press ‘Roaming,’ after which you will find Skype, and you need to select this option as well.
After this, you will be able to see the username you use for Skype, and be sure to click on this as well, after which you will see a file that is called ‘config.XML.’ Right-click on it and choose the option that says ‘Edit.’
You will find yourself in a new window, and here you need to press ‘Ctrl’ and ‘F’ together. Type in <AdvertPlaceholder> in the text box that you will see. Find this particular line, press ‘Find Next’, and then clear that line entirely. Make sure you press the button to save the settings that you have changed.
Tip: Another way to do this is:
C:users[Your User Name]
App Data
RoamingSkype[Your Skype Username]
Step 4: Select the option that says ‘config.XML’ and choose the button that says ‘Properties,’ and mark the ‘Read-only.’ Press ‘OK’ once all of this is done so that all the settings can be saved.’
