‘Couldn’t go to the airport because’: Rishabh Pant

Star India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant returns to cricket after a horrible accident in December 2022. After being away for more than a year, this Indian Premier League 2024 is the first game that he played.

Ahead of this T20 World Cup, Pant in an interview revealed the struggles and life-changing experiences that he faced after the accident.

Pant said on Shikhar Dhawan’s talk show Dhawan Karenge,

“The accident was a life-changing experience for me. When I got up after it, I wasn’t even sure if I would be alive, but God was very kind to save me. I couldn’t go to the airport because I was nervous about facing people in a wheelchair. I couldn’t even brush my teeth for two months, and for six to seven months, I suffered unbearable pain.”

“No one had real concerns about his batting, because of how good he is and how dynamic he is with the bat. But with his wicket-keeping, and having to squat every ball for 14 games in a row, there were certainly some concerns there,” he added.

“I was asked when I was over there what I thought about him. He’d been picked in the Indian squad, and I basically said he’d be one of the first players picked, and sure enough he was. So, great to see him back out there playing again.

I’ve enjoyed every moment of working with him. He’s been the captain of the Delhi Capitals, and I’ve been the coach there. But it’s been a remarkable comeback, and hopefully he has a huge impact on this World Cup.”
