Rohit Sharma’s Pain After India’s Innings Defeat Against South Africa in Day 3 Test At Centurion: Indian Team captain Rohit Sharma sincerely accepted that India had underperformed after suffering a crushing defeat in the first Test against South Africa by 32 runs. ‘When you finish the game inside 3 days…’: Rohit Sharma Confesses Post Defeat to SA

“We were not good enough to win this Test match,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation. “Having been put into bat, I thought we got decent runs on the board on that track. KL Rahul batted brilliantly to get us that score. But then, you know, we failed to exploit the conditions with the ball.

“And then again, didn’t show up with the bat today as well. Our batting was poor in the second innings. Virat Kohli was brilliant in the end there, but if you want to win Test matches, you’ve got to come together collectively. We failed to do that. Guys have come here before; we understand what to expect from the conditions. Every individual has his plan.”

“Again our batters were challenged at different times of the game. We didn’t adapt well. We saw this [is a] very boundary-scoring ground. A lot of runs were scored playing shots, but again, you’ve got to understand the opposition, their strength, what kind of lengths they hit, and things like that, and bring everything into your game plan. And, I mean, we didn’t bat well on both occasions, which is why we stand here with this loss,” expressed after the defeat against SA.

“We’ll regroup, we’ll fight back hard.”, Says Indian Team Captain ‘Rohit’

Despite the margin of defeat, Rohit concentrated on a few perfects that India could glean from their performance as they look forward to the new year 2024.

The century of KL Rahul in the first innings, paired with Jasprit Bumrah’s 4/63 in his first offshore Test since 2022 July, but India went clueless against South Africa, holds little effect. Nevertheless, Rohit stayed positive about the team’s capability to bounce back powerfully at the Wanderers in 10 days.

“There were some positives. Not a lot when you finish the game in three days. KL the way he batted, he showed what you need to do on that kind of pitch. Don’t want to be too critical of the bowlers, they haven’t played much here. We’ll regroup and come back. It’s important to regroup as quickly as we can, though from a loss like this but as sportsmen you go through these times. Got to pick ourselves up,” Rohit said.
