Sanjay Bangar praises Rohit Sharma for his ability to build confidence in players

Former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar has compared present captain Rohit Sharma with former India captain Saurab Ganguly. Speaking on what makes Rohit Sharma special as India captain. Banger said that Rohit’s USP is that he backs the players who were injured or low in confidence for a long time.

Popular Indian players like Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer were injured and India is missing their combinations in 2023. Bumrah was injured in September 2022, made a comeback in August against Ireland and from that time he has been in tremendous form.

The same situation was for KL Rahul, who was injured during IPL 2023 and didn’t play a professional match until the Asia Cup. Rahul comes back with his sensational century against Pakistan. Bangar highlighted the same and praised Rohit Sharma on how he is dealing with the Indian players.

“I believe his USP is that he’s backed the players who were injured and low on confidence. Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah these 3 players were making comebacks after injury, and they were given the confidence that they were a part of this team, and that the team believes in their abilities, and that they would get opportunities,” Bangar said on Star Sports ahead of India’s final group stage game in World Cup 2023.

Bangar compared Rohit with Ganguly and said that Rohit is doing his fantastic captain job in the present World Cup 2023 matches.

“When any captain says this, it’s above everything for a player. Another captain who did something similar is Saurav Ganguly when he identified Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra. So, this is one fantastic contribution by Rohit Sharma as a captain,” Bangar concluded on the matter.

Ganjuly captained team India in 195 matches across formats, winning was 97, losing was 78 and 15 draws, including leading side to the 2023 World Cup final. Rojit boats an incredible winning percentage of 75 in his 102 games as Indian captain.

As a captain, Rohit led India to semifinals of the T20 World Cup last year and World Test Championship final this year.
