How Shreyas Replied To Journalist?

In the post-match press conference, Iyer replied to journalists like this, if trying to hit a shot ball, there are chances of getting out no matter what the delivery is. Iyer marked his 16th ODI half-century as India posted 357 runs against Sri Lanks in the Ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket WC 2023.

“Have you seen how many short balls I’ve pulled away for boundaries? If you try to hit a shot, you’re bound to get out anyway, irrespective of it being a short or an over-pitched ball. If I get bowled 2-3 times, you’d say he can’t play in-swinging deliveries,” added Iyer in the press meet.

In his reply, he further said, “As players, we’re bound to get out on any kind of delivery. You guys have created an atmosphere where I can’t play the short ball. And I feel that people are picking that up and it plays on your mind regularly, and you keep working on that,”

He also cleared that the short balls are not a problem for him, underlining that the Mumbai pitch helps bounce more than other places in India stadiums. Iyer has now bagged 216 runs in 7 matches in this ongoing World Cup 2023.

“Coming from Mumbai and the Wankhede, where it bounces more than any other pitch in India, I know how to tackle it. When I go to hit shots, I’m bound to get out. Sometimes it works, sometimes it may not. The majority of the time, it hasn’t worked for me, which is why you think it’s a problem for me. But in my mind, I know there’s no problem,” stated Iyer.

“There’s a lot of talk in the media, which all of you do,” Iyer expressed. “But I am confident about my game and myself, and I am serious enough to play certain deliveries. I may get out again and again, but I don’t mind, to be honest. As long as I believe in myself and my teammates are confident about me. They support me, and that’s all that matters, that’s what motivates me.”

“It was playing on my mind right from the start. I was getting tremendous starts in the first few games but I wasn’t able to capitalize. Today I just told myself if it’s there in my area, I was just going to take the bull by the horns and fortunately, it worked for me. I hope that it keeps on working for me in the future as well because the team is in a great space at the moment and the players are cherishing each other’s performance and that is very important when you come on such a big stage.” added Shreyas.
