What Are the Weaknesses of Students?
Every student has their own weaknesses. However, some of the weaknesses that are common in students are as follows:
- Unorganised
- Procrastination
- Distraction
- Peer Pressure
- Lack of Enthusiasm
Now let us discuss these weaknesses and how to overcome them in the next section.
1. Unorganised
It is extremely difficult for students to stay organised at such a young age. Doing your work in an unorganised manner will create more work for students. For example, arranging the books in an unorganised manner will create a lot of work when they are searching for the book that they need immediately. Also, being unorganised will lead to improper time management skills.
The steps to staying organised are as follows:
- Create a plan to put your things in order.
- Have a colour-coded sticker for each subject and arrange them in order.
- Clean your desk and schoolbags regularly.
- Create a checklist that has a particular day’s routine and follow it throughout the day.
- Divide your everyday tasks and allocate a specified time to each task and follow it.
2. Procrastination
Procrastination is nothing but the action of delaying or postponing something. Procrastination is very common among students since it’s a part of their everyday lives. Every student will purposefully delay his/her work till the last moment. For example, let’s say when students get summer holidays, they will be loaded with a few assignments as well. But not all students try to complete them in the starting period of vacation, instead of keeping them till the last minute, which creates a last-minute rush. Thus, procrastination is a weakness that every student must avoid.
Some of the methods that help students stay away from procrastination are:
- Make a schedule and strictly follow it.
- Pritorise what activity needs to be done first.
- Say no to fun and entertainment until you complete your assigned task.
- Complete the tasks allocated as soon as you get the tasks.
3. Distraction
Not only students, but every human gets distracted for some or other reason. However, students get easily distracted due to their short attention span. The majority of students are distracted by their school’s corridors, daydreaming, talking to friends, or watching other people. Distraction being the most common thing among students will lead to a lack of focus on studies that gradually lowers their academic grades.
A few methods which help students stay away from distractions are as follows:
- Stay focused and try to concentrate. Meditating every day will help students stay focused.
- Students having a short span of attention can divide the syllabus into short segments and study accordingly.
- Do some physical exercises to stay focused.
4. Peer Influence
Not everyone is smart enough to identify their peer pressure. It takes too much effort to escape from it. Peer pressure is something everybody has to deal with at some point in their life. You can handle it successfully by thinking about how you feel about yourself and your place in the world.
It is important for parents to understand the value of peer groups for students and also remember that peer pressure can sometimes be a positive influence.
While the increased influence of peers is a normal part of a student’s development, they can sometimes use some help resisting the pressure to conform that is placed on them.
Some of the traits that will make you more susceptible to peer pressure are
- Low self-esteem
- Lack of confidence
- No personal interests
- Isolation from peers or family:
- Poor academic ability
- Fear of one’s peers
- Lack of strong bonds with friends
- Bullying for no reason
How to beat it?
- Talk about peer influence with your best friends. Be open and frank about the subject. Let them know how much it is affecting your ideas and individuality and try to solve it eventually.
- Learn to say no while still protecting yourself from your friends. Allow them to understand the situation and the reality. This will be mutual help.
- Encourage yourself and your peers to add a little bit of vision to their ideas and thinking. If you think about your goals and how they relate to the present, then you will get clarity in the area of your interests, deeds, and needs. Is this a wise action or decision? How come this will impact my future? Believe me, if you perceive in this way, you are almost 60% free of peer pressure.
- Choose wisely. Choose your circle wisely. Always stay with good friends. This makes you feel comfortable and you can be yourself.
- Never give up on your confidence!! Any sign of weakness will let the person continue until they have won it. Answer smart. Always carry humour with you. If you put some humour into your reasons, they might agree or might stop there.
5. Absence of Enthusiasm
Most of the students perform very well in English, but when it comes to subjects like mathematics, they perform poorly. This is the biggest example of a lack of enthusiasm, and this is the biggest culprit for students getting low grades. However, lack of enthusiasm is not the biggest problem, since it can be improved if done correctly. Some of the measures that help to improve the enthusiasm of students are explained below:
