Why Not Sourav Ganguly, “Timed Out”, But Why Angelo Mathews Timed Out?
Do You know, Why Ganguly is not Timed Out When he came to the crease even after 6 minutes?: As we all know about the situation of Mathews, a Sri Lanka batsman timed out as he crossed the time limit to come to the crease as he should have come within 3 minutes of the previous dismissal according to MCC’s rule.
When Mathews, was ” timed out”, but 16 years ago, ex-Indian Captain Saurav Ganguly once came into the crease after 6 minutes, and he came near to becoming the first batsman to be “Timed Out”.
Reason Behind the Late Batting of Sourav Ganguly
In 2007, when India was playing with South Africa, at that time, Saurav Ganguly was the captain of the Indian Team, he could have become the first international batsman to be “timed out”, as he came for the batting very late.
But, we will see why he was not timed out at that time.
At that time when India was playing with South Africa, on Day 3 Sachin Tendulkar needed to go to the crease after Wasim Jaffer was out. But he was not allowed to go as Sachin was in time off on Day 2 when their proteas were playing. So, even though Wasim Jaffer came out at 10:43 Fourth Empire did not allow Sachin till 10:48.

So, after Sachin, VVS Laxman is to go to the crease for batting, but as he was in the shower, Saurav Ganguly was forced to go at that time, Saurav was in track pants, and for the former captain it took to get ready and come to the crease.
And even as Empire explains the other South African team captain, didn’t appeal to Saurav to be timed out, the rule in MCC says that “timed out” is the person will be timed out only if the fielding captain appeals to the Empire as Shakib appealed about the Mathews.
And here all the credit goes to South African Captain Graeme Smith as he showed concern for the Indian team. If the SA captain have appealed for Timed Out, Saurav Ganguly might be the first person to be in “Timed Out”.
You can also check the video of the situation in 2007.
On January 5, 2007, Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly nearly made history by being the first player to be declared 'timed out' in international cricket. He took six minutes to reach the batting crease. However, Graeme Smith, the opposing team's captain, chose not to enforce this… pic.twitter.com/JMhhs5Yaa5
