T20 World Cup 2024: Will Virat or Yashasvi Going to Open The Match Against Ireland

As everyone waits, Finally, the T20 World Cup 2024 has already started, and India is going to start their campaign on June 5 against Ireland.

Previously, when the T20 World Cup was about to start, BCCI said that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were going to open the match, but Hayden recently changed the decision that Virat should open with Virat.

Will Virat or Yashasvi Going to Open The Match Against Ireland

According to Hayden, Virat and Yashasvi are going to open the match and Rohit is in the No.4 position. India’s opening combination for their first match of T20 World Cup 2024 against Ireland, is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5 in New York.

All eyes are now on the team management as India are likely to pick two of the three — Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi and Kohli — for the opening roles against Ireland.

Head Coach Dravid said on Monday that,

“We’ve got options, so we are not going to reveal our cards just yet, but certainly we’ve got options. We have Rohit and Jaiswal and Virat opened in the IPL as well.”

“We picked the team keeping in mind that we have three options and we could pick and choose what we wanted depending on the conditions and kind of combination we go into these games with,” he added. 

Matthew Hayden’s Playing XI Ahead of T20 World Cup Shocks Everyone

Speaking to Star Sports Network, Ian Bishop said,

“I like Virat Kohli at the top, I have said that over the last couple of years, not just for this tournament. That’s my preference. But, India may be thinking of something else, Rahul Dravid may have other options.

If you take Jaiswal, there has been a little bit of concern with his form in the IPL. But if you think his form is good enough to be in the team, then I want Jaiswal at the top, partly because he is left-handed. So you get that left-right combination. So that would be my choice as the opening pair.”
