‘I don’t understand why…’: Yuvraj questions Babar Azam’s captaincy, gives verdict on IND vs PAK

The ambassador of ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and former Indian cricketer, Yuvraj Singh questioned Pakistan’s Super Over tactics against the USA in the thriller encounter at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas on June 6, Thursday.

The USA team scripted history as they went on to win the Super Over encounter against Pakistan to pull off a big upset in the T20 World Cup 2024. The Monank Patel-led side put hearts on their sleeves as they dominated the proceedings throughout the match.

Despite the game getting tied and eventually going into a Super Over, the USA ensured that they edged past Pakistan to register their second win on the trot in a marquee tournament.

Yuvraj Singh took X to share his displeasure with Pakistan batter Fakhar Zaman for not taking the strike against a left-arm seamer. He went on to laud the USA team for their decision-making under pressure situation. The former India cricketer also reckoned that it could be hard for Pakistan in their next encounter against India.

During the Super Over, Mohammad Amir gave away 18 runs against the USA and Pakistan was set for a target of 19 runs. USA’s left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar was given the responsibility to defend 19 runs and he managed to dismiss Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab Khan walked into bat alongside Zaman.

However, the 2nd last ball witnessed Shadab Khan and Zaman running for 2 runs, which means the former would be on strike for the last ball. Pakistan needed 7 runs off the last ball and Shadab could not connect the ball and the team fell short by 5 runs.

Speaking about the game, Pakistan was thoroughly embarrassed as the USA, who were playing for the first time, pulled off one of the biggest upsets in history. After the scores were tied, the co-hosts overcame the Men in Green in the Super Over.

The match went into a super over when Pakistan scored 159/7, and the USA achieved the same total. Mohammed Amir’s erratic bowling, which cost Pakistan 18 runs, allowed them to lead too many runs. With two straight victories, the USA moved to the top of Group A ahead of IND vs PAK managing just 13. In their first match, the US defeated Canada by 7 wickets.
