Who is CSK Captain After MS Dhoni? CEO Viswanathan Update Ahead of IPL 2024

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) CEO Kasi Viswanathan has revealed that there have been discussions regarding succession planning after MS Dhoni quits captaincy. He also said that the former BCCI president and CSK franchise owner N Srinivasan had asked to leave this kind of decision to the coach and captain.

CSK will play the Indian Premier League 2024 under the captaincy of Dhoni. The season is scheduled to begin on March 22 and the reigning champions would want to identify a potential future captain for the side.

“See, there have been internal talks. But, Mr. Srinivasan has made it very clear. Let’s not talk about captain and vice-captain appointments. Let’s leave it to the coach and the captain to decide. Let them decide and convey the information to me, and then I will convey it to you all. He has said that ’the captain and the coach will decide and give us a directive, till then let’s all keep quiet’,” Viswanathan told S Badrinath in the latter’s YouTube show.

Ms Dhoni responded to the retirement rumours last year and said that he would play at least one more season, considering it a gesture of gratitude towards the fans. He has been suffering from a knee injury since last season and after leading CSK to their 5th IPL title, he underwent knee surgery.

Former team India captain reached Chennai in the first week of March and he has been playing an active role in CSK’s training session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. CSK will start their IPL 2024 campaign by playing against RCB.

Dhoni was in his element in 2023 as he led CSK to their 5th IPL trophy, getting the better of Gujarat Titans in a last-ball thriller in the final match held in Ahmedabad.
