Ranji Trophy Final: Musheer Khan Breaks Sachin Tendulkar’s 29-year Old Record with Century

Mumbai star cricketer Musheer Khan has broken a record for the legendary Sachin Tendulkar during the ongoing Ranji Trophy final against Vidarbha at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.

Musheer Khan, the youngest brother of Indian cricketer Sarfaraz Khan, scored a patient century in Mumbai’s second innings of the title clash. Thus, he became the youngest batter from his team to score a century in the Ranji final.

Sachin Tendulkar was 21 years old when he scored a memorable 140 against Punjab in the 19954-95 Ranji Trophy final as Mumbai declared their first innings at a mammoth 690/6 in 168.4 overs, a contest also held at the Wankhede.

The legendary Tendulkar also slammed a century in the second innings of that contest as the final ended in a draw and Bombay were declared winners based on their first-innings lead.

Musheer achieved this feat at 19 years and 14 days when he took a couple of runs off Vidarbha pacer Yash Thakur to reach 3 figures after consuming 255 deliveries. Interestingly, Tendulkar was present at the venue to watch the Day 3 match as Mumbai continued to tighten their hold over the contest.

Earlier Musheer represented India in the ICC Under 19 World Cup in South Africa where he played a vital role in his team’s unbeaten run to the final. He scored 360 runs in the tournament, the second most after captain Uday Saharan who finished with 397 runs.

Musheer scored his first-class century during the Ranji Trophy quarter-final clash against Baroda and converted it into a double-ton. He made 203 off 357 as Mumbai were bowled out for 384.

Last month, Musheer’s elder brother Sarfaraz Khan made his Test debut in Rajkot and peeled off a pair of sparkling half-centuries.
