“Never Going To Be As Good As Him”: Kohli’s Tribute to “Hero” Tendulkar After Record Equailling 49th ODI Century

ICC Men’s World Cup between India and South Africa was held in Kolkata on November 5, 2023. In that match, India won the match by 243 runs. Indian team cleared all SA players in 27 wickets. Virat Kohli was awarded the player of the match with a 101 score. He hits his 49th ODI hundred on his 35th birthday. Thus Kohli equalled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI hundreds during India’s match against South Africa.

After announcing the Player of the Match title, he spoke at the press meat. He said that I cannot digest the fact that he has equalled Tendulkar’s record who was my idol when he was growing up. Virat Kohli said that “Sachin Tendulkar is perfection when it comes to batting”.

In a tribute to the man with 100 international centuries, another record which Kolhi is chasing, India’s highest run-getter in ODI WC 2023 said that he can never be as good as the great man Sachin.

“It is all too much for me to take in now, to equal my hero’s record is something special for me. He is perfection when it comes to batting. But I am never going to be as good as him,” Kohli told at the press meet.

“It’s a very emotional moment for me, I know where I come from. I know the days where I have been watching him on TV, and to get that appreciation from him means a lot to me,” he added.

Sachin Tendulkar chose social media X known as Twitter to appreciate Kohli’s performance, He expressed the hope that Virat Kohli would be able to go past him and make his 50th ODI ton in the matches to come in the ongoing or later tournament.

“Well played Virat! It took me 365 days to go from 49 to 50. I hope you go from 49 to 50 and break my record in the next few days. Congratulations,” Tendulkar posted on X.
