Akash Ambani’s classy reply to ‘Rohit Sharma ko wapas lao’ shout from crowd steals the show during IPL auction

The Indian Premier League auctions are all about selecting new players to represent a specific franchise, and the event conducted in Dubai on December 19 was no exception. All the 10 franchises spent their amount all-around INR 230.45 crore and bought 72 players.

Out of all selected players, Australia’s pacers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins are the most costliest players in the history of IPL with a combined sum of INR 45 crore.

Mumbai Indians franchise owner Akash Ambani was also present for the auction in Dubai. During the commercial break, an MI fan from the crowd shouted “Rohit Sharma ko wapis lao”, (Bring Rohit Sharma back as a captain), this was enclosed in a video shared by MI on their X handle.

For this message, Ambani’s reply was ‘Chinta mat karo. Woh batting karega’ (Don’t worry, he will bat), which is going viral on social media platforms.

The reaction of the fans stems from MI’s decision to appoint Hardik Pandya as the new captain of the franchise in place of Rohit Sharma, who has won 5 IPL titles as captain in the last 11 seasons.

Hardik made his IPL debut with Mumbai Indians in 2015 for INR 10 lakh salary, and won 4 trophies under Rohit’s captaincy. But in 2022, he joined the Gujarat Titans after not being retained by the Mumbai Indians.

Rohit joined MI in 2011 for INR 9.2 crore after representing Deccam Charges in the first 3 seasons and was appointed as the captain in the 2013 season after Ricky left the job.

Rohit earned his first IPL title for MI in 2013 and remaining in 2015, 2017, 20189, and 2020 respectively. Under his leadership, MI secured the second qualifier for the IPL 2023 but failed to qualify for the final. Rohit was replaced by Hardik Pandya as captain for Mumbai Indians.
