Asian Cricket Council reelects Jay Shah as chairman for a third term: Jay Shah who is the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary has been reelected as the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

This news shut down rumors of him leaving to run for the position of ICC Chief. He is the son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. However, Jay Shah at the age of 35 assisted as the ACC Chief for the third term.

According to the previous reports, Shah will be stepping down from the ACC to seek the chairmanship of the ICC in November 2024. At last, this news was confirmed as false.

The proposal of extending the shah’s term to one more year was kept by the President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Shammi Silva. And, his proposal got unanimous support from the members of the ACC.

“Under Shah’s guidance, the ACC has been instrumental in unearthing and promoting new talent in cricketing powerhouses like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka,” Silva said.

After reappointing as chairman of ACC, Jay Shah stated his gratitude to the board members for trusting him again to do the job.

He added further, “We must remain committed to ensuring the all-round development of the sport with a special focus on regions where it is still in its infancy. The ACC is committed to nurturing cricket across Asia”.

History of Jay Shah

Shah’s appointment as the ACC President in January 2021 marked a significant moment, as he became the youngest administrator to hold this position. Under his leadership, the ACC has made tremendous strides in promoting and developing cricket across the Asian region.

Under Shah’s leadership, the ACC successfully organized the Asia Cup in both T20 and ODI formats in 2022 and 2023, respectively, showcasing Asia’s ability to host premier cricket events. His tenure has been characterized by persistent resolution and an unrelenting dedication to the growth of cricket in Asia.
