India Enters Word Cup 2023 Finals, Win by 70 Runs, Mohammed Shami Gets 7 Wicket Haul

The first ICC ODI World Cup 2023 semifinal is between India and New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday. In that match, India wins by 70 runs. India scores 397/4 in the 50 overs, while New Zealand score is 327/10 in 48.5 overs.

India achieved multiple record in this semifinal match. First was, Virat Kohli scored 50th ODI hundred. Others are Mohammed Shami becomes the first bowler to pick four five wicket hauls in World Cups.

Firstly, India won the toss at the Wankhede Stadium and choose to bat first. In the 50 overs, they scored 397 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Kohli’s 117 runs and a blistering 105 from Shreyas Iyer helped India to score high.

Virat achieved 50th ODI hundred against New Zealand. Kohli’s knock of 117 for 113 balls, gave him the record for the highest number of centuries in the 50 overs format of the game, taking him applauses from the cricketers and audience.

After scampering for 2 runs off fast bowler Lockie Ferguson to get his mark, Kohli took his helmet and expressed his happiness, He hit 9 fours and sixes before getting out from the bowler Tim Southee, who took 3 wickets for 100.

Shreyas Iyer’s 105 also make Indian fans happy as they celebrated with fireworks after the match. Rohit sharma made 47 and Shubman Gill scored 71 runs. Gill retired hurt because of leg cramp but returned later to bat again.

Mohammed Shami has three five wicket hauls in six apperances this World Cup and a record of four in total at the tournament.

Australia and South Africa will meet in the second semi-final at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday.
