Virat Kohli Overtakes Tendulkar Landmark for Most ODI Centuries

India vs New Zealand World Cup 2023 Semifinal: The first semifinal match of the ODI CWC 2023 is between India and New Zealand on Wednesday at Wankhede Stadium. India choose to bat first and scored 397/4 in 50 overs.

In that semifinal match, Virat Kohli slammed 50 ODI centuries and broke Sachin Tenulkar’s record. Kohli broke the record of the most hundreds made by any batter in ODI World Cup history, getting to his 50th ton against New Zealand.

The former Indian captain Virat Kohli got to mark with a double off Lockie Ferguson in 42nd over of the semifinal match on Wednesday, off the 10th ball that he faced in his innings. With that, Kohli had equalled Tendulkar’s record when he scored 49th ODI hundred against South Africa in Kolkata on his 35th birthday. The batter had made his first ODI hundred at the same ground against Sri Lanka in 2009.

Virat Kohli’s highest score in ODIs came against Pakistan in Asian Cup in 2012 when he made 183 runs to chase 330 runs. The century on Wednesday was also Kohli’s 80th international hundred, which is second only to Sachin Tendulkar who completed his career with 100 internatioanl hundreds.

Incidentally, November 15 marked 10 years back Tendulkar batted for the last time for India in international cricket, when he made 74 against West Indies in his 200th Test match also at Wankhede in Mumbai.
