Injured Ravindra Jadeja reaches NCA, set to miss remaining Test matches vs England

India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has returned to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for his hamstring injury recovery process. Notably, Jadeja has been ruled out of the second Test against England because of the hamstring injury, that he suffered in the first Test.

Jadeja took his Instagram to share a photo of the National Cricket Academy with the caption: “Home for next few days.” Jadeja’s injury setback means three of India’s more experienced players are missing the second Test.

Star batter Virat Kohli has already been ruled out of the first two Tests for personal circumstances, while middle-order batter L Rahul joined Jadeja on the absent list with a quadriceps injury.

“Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury during play on Day 4 of the first Test in Hyderabad while Rahul complained of a right quadriceps pain. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring the progress of the duo,” read the BCCI statement.

None of the three can easily be replaced, but Jadeja is the most indispensable. If there was a multi-format MVP poll across the country, Jadeja would easily top the list due to his overall virtuosity.

Ravindra Jadeja is a versatile left-handed batsman who has notably developed into a proficient Test-match star performance over the last 6 years, a shrewd left-arm spinner, and a dynamic fielder whose contributions have frequently been pivotal in determining match outcomes.

Since 2016, across 53 Tests, he has maintained an impressive batting average exceeding 40 and a bowling average below 25, underscoring his significance to the team.

Jadeja’s ascendancy over Ashwin as India’s primary spinner abroad underscores the magnitude of his bowling prowess. Addressing the void left in Vizag presents a formidable challenge for India.

The Indian selection committee has included Sarfaraz Khan, Sourabh Kumar, and Washington Sundar in the squad. Saransh Jain has been named as Washington Sundar’s replacement in the India A squad for the third and final multi-day game against England on February 1 in Ahmedabad.

Avesh Khan will continue to travel with Madhya Pradesh’s Ranji Trophy team and may be called up to the Test squad. India made three changes to their squad for the second Test and the hosts have three potential replacements for Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, and Saurabh Kumar.
