Indian Premier League 2024: Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul joined the camp on Wednesday, March 20, to start his preparations for the upcoming IPL season.

Captain’s return would be a boost for the franchise which is looking to get over its eliminator curse in the 2024 season. In the past 2 seasons, LSG has not been able to cross the Eliminator stage. In 2022, LSG were defeated by Royal Challengers Banglore and in 2023, they were defeated by the Mumbai Indians.

The wicketkeeper cum batter suffered a thigh injury in the early IPL 2023 and was ruled out of the remaining season after which Krunal Pandya captained the side to a third-place finish.

KL Rahul’s Injury History

Captain Kl Rahul played only 9 matches in the last IPL and was out of action due to injury. The incident happened while chasing a ball in the second over of their match against RCB.

At that point, he had to be helped off the pitch and did not return until a chase of 127 became tense. In the hopes of winning the game, he walked to bat at Number 11. However, he was unable to run between the wickets, resulting in No 9 Amit Misha facing every ball of the final over.

The wicketkeeper batter had to go to England to get his surgery done and returned to international cricket in the Asia Cup 2023. Rahul was called up against Pakistan and had a partnership with Kohli, where he scored a hundred.

Rahul continued his extraordinary work in the ODI World Cup and he scored 452 runs at an average of 75.33. He was the 8th highest scorer in the tournament.

After the World Cup, Rahul performed well in the South Africa tour and was also named in the England Test squad. After playing the first match, Rahul got injured and was sidelined from the rest of the series.

Rahul’s recurring injury history raised eyebrows about his fitness but the batter put in some hard work to make his return ahead of the LSG’s first match against Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.
