Pakistan Bowling Coach Morne Morkel Exits From Job After World Cup Flop

Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel has resigned from his role as the bowling coach for the Pakistan cricket team. The decision was out after Pakistan’s poor performance at the ongoing ODI Cricket World Cup 2023, leaving the team in search of a new mentor for their fast bowling unit.

Morne Morkel Informs Pakistan Cricket Board About Resignation

Morne Morkel, who took up the coaching position on a six-month contract in June 2023, has expressed his disinterest in continuing the job. He formally informed the Pakistan Cricket Board about his resignation.

“Morkel’s first assignment with the men’s team was their tour to Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series”, the PCB said, adding that Morkel’s replacement would be announced soon.

Morkel was previously presented in Namibia at the Australia 2022 T20 World Cup. He is the bowling coach for the Lucknow Super Gaints of the IPL and Durban Super Gaints of the SA20.

Umar Gul Likely to Replace Morkel

As per the Pakistan media, former pacer Umar Gul is likely to replace Morkel as the new bowling coach for the upcoming Australia tour.

Throughout his international career, Gul represented Pakistan in all three formats of the game. He played 47 Tests, 130 ODIs and 60 T20s. In Tests, he took 163 wickets, while in ODIs and T20s, he claimed 179 179 and 85 wickets, respectively.
