Why no Shakib Al Hasan in IPL 2024 auction

Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has revealed the reason for not giving his name for the upcoming IPL auction. The much-awaited auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to take place on December 19 in Dubai.

The cricketers from all around the globe have registered their names for the IPL auction and will be hoping to bag IPL contracts, but Shakib Al Hasan has decided against it. A total of 333 players will go under the hammer for 77 available slots out of which 30 are overseas.

The total purse available is INR 262.95 crore. Kolkata Knight Rides (KKR) have the highest slots i.e 12 to be filled while Gujarat Titans (GT), who traded Hardik Pandya to Mumbai Indians (MI) in the all-cash transaction have the highest purse (INR 38.15 crore) in the auction.

Whyn’t Shakib Al Hasan Has Registered for the IPL 2024 auction?

On Monday, Bangladesh player Shakib Al Hasan revealed that he is considering giving up franchise-based T20 cricket to concentrate more on national duty. Shakib has not registered for the IPL auction 2024 and also instructed his manager to withdraw his name from the Pakistan Super League players’ draft.

“I did not give my name in IPL so a window will be opened when my manager gave my name in PSL I told him to withdraw it and my name is not there in PSL so I plan to give all this time to national team because I will sacrifice the franchise tournament that I used to play,” Shakib was quoted by Cricbuzz.

“I am playing in three formats and hope that I can continue that but no one knows about the future and what is in store but till now I have the desire to play cricket for a long time,” he added.

Shakib is out of just just-ended two-Test series against New Zealand at home and also can miss the next white ball trip of New Zealand because of a finger injury. He hoped that he might return to competitive cricket with the 2024 Bangladesh Premier League, the country’s lone franchise-based T20 league, which will begin on January 19.

“I was hoping that I would be going to New Zealand for the ODI and T20 series as now the team is departing for the tour and I was planning in that way because I felt I would be ok by four weeks. However, I consulted a doctor two days back and he asked me to wait as I would need another two weeks and later start the rehabilitation.

It is taking more time than expected as it will need six weeks and the next option is that after doing the rehabilitation and gaining fitness I don’t see any other way before BPL and there is an election so I will be busy so I will return to competitive cricket through BPL and can play from the start of BPL by getting full fitness,” Shakib added.
