Cricketer S Sreesanth booked in cheating case in Kerala

The Kerala state police filed a case involving a cheating complaint against former India faster bowler S Sreesanth and two other persons. They have been accused of cheating and dishonesty inducing delivery of property. The FIR was filed as the resident of Choonda Kannapuram Sareesh Balagopalan was deceived a sum of ₹18.7 lakh.

As reported by ANI, the FRI lists Rajiv Kumar, aged 50, and Venkatesh Kini, aged 43 as the other parties accused in the case. Balagopalan has claimed that he was deceived for a sum amounting to ₹18.7 lakh on different occasions from April 25, 2019. Balagopalan alleged that he invested the sum after being offered the opportunity to become a partner in the academy.

Former cricketer S Sreesanth and other two persons have been booked under IPC section 420. According to the FIR note, the money was taken for the construction of a sports academy at Kollur, Karnataka, where Sreesanth has been named as the third accused in the case.

Sreesanth has made his ODI match debut in October 2005, and played 53 ODI matches and took 75 wickets. He made his test debut in March 2006 and played 27 matches with 87 wickets. However, he has been banned by the BCCI for flifetine in August 2013 on charges of spot-fixing during IPL season 6.

In July 2015, along with Sreesanth, his other temamted Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan was also arrested by Delhi Police for the spot-fixing charges. However, in 2019, the Supreme Court has reduced the ban to 7 years, which aws completed in September 2020.

After his ban, he made comback with Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2021 for Kerala Cricket Association. In 2021 and 2022, he got sortlisted for the IPL auction but never sold.

In 2022, he has decided to take retirement from all formats of cricket. “For the next generation of cricketers. I have chosen to end my first class cricket career. This decision is mine alone, and although I know this will not bring me happiness, it is the right and honorable action to take at this time in my life. I have cherished every moment,” he had said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
