All You Need To Know About ODI World Cup 2027

The ICC Men’s World Cup 2027 will be jointly hosted by South Africa and Zimbabwe, marking their second collaboration since the 2003 edition. Namibia is set to debut as a host nation, expanding the tournament to 14 participating teams. The format will be the same as the 2003 edition.

The ODI World Cup 2027 is scheduled for October and November 2027. It is the 14th edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup in One Day International (ODI). The CWC 2027 will span across South Africa, Nambia, and Zimbabwe.

Which Are World Cup 2027 Participating Teams and Qualification Criteria?

As South Africa and Zimbabwe are the host countries, they will automatically qualify. The top 8 teams in the ICC rankings gain the direct qualification. The leftover 4 positions will be selected through global qualifier tournaments.

Even though Nambia is a co-hosting country, their team participation is not yet confirmed because of their non-membership status. They have to earn qualifications like any other non-full ICC member.

CWC 2027 Game Format

The tournament format involves two groups of seven teams each. The top 3 teams from every group will progress to the Super Six stage, and they further go to the semifinals and final to win the World Cup trophy. Teams will play against each other in the group stage just like in the 2003 World Cup format.

Additionally, the 2027 ODI World Cup edition reintroduces a modified version of the Points Carry Forward system, previously used in 1999. PCF from the initial pool stage will give each team two points for a win over a Super Six qualified team, one for a win over an eliminated side.

The exact stadium locations and dates are unknown as of now, but there is a likelihood that the venues will resemble of the 2003 edition. During 2003, matches were spread across 12 stadiums in SA, 2 in Zimbabwe and 1 in Kenya.

In the recently completed World Cup 2023, Australia won the trophy against India. They finally achieved the sixth ODI World Cup title. Travis Head’s stunning century played an important role in India, placing Australia 4 titles ahead of any other nation on cricket’s global stage.
