IND vs ENG Test Series is king Jasprit Bumrah

India vs England Test series: India’s star fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah has hailed Test cricket as the king of all formats of the game. Before the India and England Test series, he has credited the red-ball format for developing his bowling skills.

Speaking to the Guardian, Bumrah has said that Test cricket will always find a way to survive amid debates about the relevance of the format.

“Hopefully I am better than you” – Proteas U19 star message to Jasprit Bumrah

“I am of that generation where Test cricket is king,” Bumrah said in an interview with The Guardian.

“I will always judge myself on it. Yes I started with IPL but I learned to bowl through first-class cricket; that’s where I developed my skill, the art of taking wickets. In Test cricket, you have to get the batsman out and that challenges you as a bowler,” he further added.

The star pacer Jasprit Bumrah made a comeback into the red ball format in the South Africa Test series. He had not played Test cricket since June 2022 because of his back injury. He helped India draw the 2-match series against South Africa away from home.

While speaking about the difference between red-ball cricket and white-ball cricket, Bumrah said that there is no luck involved in Test cricket and one has to deserve their wickets.

“T20Is, ODIs, some days you might send down five slower balls and get five guys out when in a Test match they wouldn’t have taken one. There is no luck in Test cricket, the better team wins, and you cannot take 20 wickets through luck. I was never happy with just white-ball cricket and Test cricket is still the utmost format for me,” Bumrah said.

The pacer concluded the interview by saying that playing too much of a single format is boring and there should be a good mix between the three in a year.

“I don’t know how the youngsters look at it. But Test cricket has been around this long, it will find a way. Every format has its place – too much Test cricket would be boring, and too much white ball the same. I think [the sport needs] a little bit of everything, rather than an overdose of one format or the other,” Bumrah concluded on the matter.
