Indian Domestic Players May Earn Upto INR 1 Crore

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to increase the remuneration for domestic players, with potential earnings ranging from INR 75 lakh to INR 1 crore. Notably, the selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar has been assigned to propose implementation strategies for the initiative.

As reported by Cricbuzz, the national selection committee has engaged in discussions about the proposal. The objective of this idea is to prevent domestic players not involved in the IPL from feeling deprived. Notably, the BCCI is considering doubling the fees for domestic players.

According to the present payment structure, the BCCI offers INR 60,000 a day to players who have taken part in more than 40 Ranji games, INR 50,000 for those with 21 to 40 games, and INR 40,000 for those who played in 20 games. Meanwhile, reserve players receive INR 30,000, INR 25,000, and INR 20,000 respectively.

As per this pay scale, a senior player could potentially earn up to INR 25 lakh if their team reached the final, while other team members could earn between INR 17 lakh and INR 22 lakh. Additionally, players will also receive earnings from white-ball tournaments like the Vijay Hazare and Mushtaq Ali. There is a strong possibility that the remuneration will be increased in the upcoming season.

The plan to maximise the domestic players’ earnings, is aimed at stimulating them to participate in the Ranji Trophy, India’s premier domestic competition. During the previous season, some players opted out of red-ball cricket due to concerns about injury risk, prioritising their fitness for the IPL instead. Notably, the idea aligns with the BCCI’s objective of promoting red-ball cricket in the country.

It is worth nothing that, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah earlier announced an increase in match fees for those playing Test matches. Given this, Indian cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar had suggested doubling or even tripling the fees for domestic cricketers.
