IPL 2024 auction Trading window open from December 20

The IPL 2024 Auction ended on Tuesday at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. A total of 72 players were sold and a whopping Rs. 230.45 crore was spent. But this is not the final chance for IPL teams to tinker with their playing combinations as the trading window opens again on Wednesday, December 20.

As per the IPL’s rules, the trading window starts a month after the season ends and stays open up to a week before the auction date. It opens again after the auction and stays in operation until a month before the start of the next season. With the December 19 auction, the trading window is open again for up to a month before the 2024 season begins.

The trading window allows teams to swap their players in an all-cash deal, with the IPL governing council reserving the right to make the final approval for the trade. The IPL trading window became famous when Mumbai Indians made the biggest trade of the league’s history and bought Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans. MI were involved in 2 huge trades in the previous window. Apart from Pandy and Cameron Green, a few others also shifted their base price ahead of the IPL auction 2024.

IPL teams get 3 trading windows starting after the end of an IPL season which concludes before the retention deadline. The second window begins after the retention list is announced and it concludes a week before the IPL auction. The last window opens right after the auction and goes on till a week before the next IPL season commences.

IPL Mini-auction 2024 witnessed a slight change in every team’s strategy in building the balance of the side. Teams were cautious to spend money on key players in the auction and they were looking for bargain buys rather than spending heavy amounts on them. The two Aussies (Pat Cummins and sees Mitchell Starc) were the only exceptions and apart from these two, Rachin Ravindra, Travis Head, Gerald Coetzee, and Wanindu Hasaranga got less amount than expected.
