ICC Champions Trophy 2025: List of 8 Teams That Have Qualified

The ICC Champions Trophy is set to be revived by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after a hiatus of eight years. After the last event in 2017, the tournament is set to be held again in Pakistan in 2023. The last time the Champions Trophy was organised in England. Pakistan won the Trophy in 2017.

The league stage of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 has now been completed. The last match was played between India and the Netherlands. India won against the Dutch by 160 runs. This was India’s 9th consecutive victory in the World Cup 2023. With the World Cup 2023 group stage coming to an end, a total of 8 teams have qualified for the Champions Trophy 2023.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be going held in Pakistan. Therefore, the host nation has automatically qualified. The Champions Trophy has not been organised since 2017. Pakistan

Pakistan is the only team that doesn’t require eligibility from the points table. The green team had already qualified for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy 2023 as they were picked as the hosts of the tournament. Pakistan has a below-average World Cup 2023 campaign and completed 5th position in the points table. Pakistan was only 4 matches out of 9 league games.

India

India has the highest run rate in the entire ODI World Cup 2023 and is in the pole position in the group stage. The team won all 9 league-stage matches and earned 18 points. A dominating run in the World Cup tournament helped them in qualifying for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. India has also qualified for the semi-final of the World Cup 2023.

South Africa

South Africa team also had a brilliant World Cup 2023 campaign. Barring the defeat against the Dutch in Dharamsala and India in Kolkata, they won all the remaining 7 matches in the league round. South Africa earned 14 points in 9 games and finished second in the table to qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

New Zealand

The New Zealand team also qualified for the IC Champions Trophy 2023 in Pakistan after a decent performance in the ongoing World Cup 2023. They had a great start to the World Cup but failed to carry that in mid of the tournament. After winning the first 4 games, the Kiwis lost the next 4 games to put their semi-final qualification hanging in mid-way. A win against Sri Lanka ensured they remained in the 4th position.

Australia

Australia had a few scares when they began their World Cup 2023 campaign. Team India and South Africa, both defeated five-time World Champions easily. It also made them rethink their strategies and now they are into the CWC 2023 semi-finals and ICC Champions Trophy 2023 after 7 consecutive wins in the league round. Australia secured 3rd position in the group stage with 14 points and 7 wins.

England

The defending champions were best in the ICC World Cup 2023 but somewhere they managed to qualify for the Champions Trophy tournament. England were languishing at the bottom with just 2 points in their first 7 league games but two back-back wins in the last 2 matches ensured their place in the ICC Champions Trophy 2023. England team won only 3 games in the CWC 2023.

Afghanistan

The Afghans have been one of the most impressive sides in the World Cup campaign. They have almost reached their dream semi-final qualification as they finished 6th in the points table with 8 points and 4 wins. Their splendid effort has also marked qualification in front of their name at the ICC Champions Trophy 2023. Afghanistan defeated England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands in the CWC 2023.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh have also qualified for the ICC Champions Trophy 2023 after winning their penultimate game against Sri Lanka in Pune. Sri Lanka was also in contention but they needed to win against Bangladesh and the result was vice versa. Bangladesh has a poor CWC campaign and they couldn’t challenge any team properly.
