LSG fan celebration among upset CSK crowd gains attention

LSG etched their name in the annals of cricket history on Tuesday with a remarkable feat at Chepauk Stadium. In the 39th match of the IPL 2024 between CSK and LSG, Chennai Super Kings were tasked with batting first and managed to post a formidable total of 210 runs for the loss of 4 wickets, largely due to Gaikward’s impressive knock of 108 runs off 60 balls, supported by Shivam Dube’s 66 off 27 deliveries.

In response, LSG delivered a stellar performance with Marcus Stoinis leading the charge with an outstanding innings of 124 runs off just 63 balls, complemented by Nicholas Pooran’s brisk 34 off 15 balls. They chased down the target with 3 balls to spare and still had 6 wickets in hand.

LSG Fan Celebration in the CSK Crowd

Despite the overwhelming presence of CSK fans flooding the MA Chidambaram Stadium in their yellow attire, a solitary LSG fan stood out amidst the disappointed faces. Caught on camera amidst the disheartened CSK supporters, this LSG fan was seen jubilantly dancing and celebrating their team’s remarkable victory. The video swiftly went viral on different social media platforms.

LSG Recreates History

In their debut season, the LSG had clinched victory over Super Kings in a manner strikingly similar to their recent encounter. In the 7th match of IPL 2022, hosted at Brabourne Stadium in Maharashtra, Super Giants won the toss and elected to bowl. CSK then posted a total of 210 runs, which LSG successfully chased down with 3 balls to spare and won by 6 wickets, mirroring the circumstances of their recent match in IPL 2024.

Reacting to this remarkable coincidence, LSG took to social media and posted the scorecards of both matches.

Speaking on the win, KL said during the post-match presentation that the victory was really special because of the circumstances it came in.

“Very special, especially when it is a game like that. We were way behind the game when we were batting so it was very special to pull it off. It was a fresh start, both teams started off at zero. Different conditions here. I think they started off really well and put us under pressure. 170-180 would have been a great total here but they batted really well.”

“Full credit to Stoinis. It was not just power-hitting, it was very clever batting. He picked his bowlers and played very well. We felt like we needed to be braver and capitalize the powerplay (decision to send Stoinis at three) and needed a power-hitter in the top three. I have realized that T20 cricket has changed in the past couple of years, 170-180 does not always cut it. You need to go harder in the powerplay and the impact player rule also gives you a bit more depth.”
