U19 World Cup 2024 India beat Nepal to secure spot in semifinals

Under 19 World Cup 2024: Sachin Das and captain Uday Saharan played major roles in India’s 132-run victory against Nepal in ICC U19 World Cup 2024 on Friday to enter into the semifinals. India will now play against South Africa in the last four match.

Choosing to bat first, India capitalised on the fresh pitch in Bloemfrontein, with Adarsh displaying intent from the word go. The southpaw was dealing only in boundaries, hitting four in the initial 4 overs but was soon caught behind down leg-side by the dynamic Gulshan Jha.

Indians pacers such as Dhas (116) and Saharan (100) continued their form to built a strong partnership, turning India’s 62/3 to an impressive 297/5.

Currently, India is with 8 points, secured a spot in the semifinals and will face South Africa. Saumy Pandey’s impressive bowling with 4 wickets, led to Nepal’s collapse. Despite a late effort from skipper Dev Khanal (33), Nepal readched 165/9. India faced scare as wicketkeeper Aravalli Avanish left the ground due to injury and Innesh Mahajan took over.

A crucial partnership between Saharan and Dhas shifted the momentum after early dismissals. Dhas displayed controlled aggression, scoring a century and pacing his innings beautifully.

The win marked India’s dominance in the tournament but they faced challenges with injuries and a resilient Nepalese batting display.

The Player of the Match was awarded to Sachin Dhas. He was elated at scoring a hundred after being pushed up the batting order.

“It feels very nice to get the runs. I was told yesterday that I would be batting up the order and I grabbed the opportunity today. The team needed me to play a measured knock. The discussion with Uday [Saharan] in the middle was to play long and finish the innings,” Dhas said to the media.
