‘Records are meant to be broken’: Yuvraj Singh praises Prakhar Chaturvedi

Karnataka batsman Prakhar Chaturvedi become an overnight star with his record-breaking knock of 404 not out in the Cooch Behar Trophy final match against Mumbai on Monday.

The exact thing that made his achievement more special is that he broke legendary cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s 25-year-old record for the highest score in the U-19 tournament final.

Yuvraj displayed his batting skills by scoring an impressive 358 for Punjab in a match against Bihar in 1999. World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni was a player of the Bihar squad during that match.

Reacting to Prakhar Chaturvedi’s record-broken performance, Yuvraj expressed his delight over Prakhar’s extraordinary feat and said he is immensely happy to observe that the future of Indian cricket is in safe hands.

Partnering with Karthik S U, Chaturvedi added 109 runs for the first wicket. His opening partner contributed a solid 50 off 67 balls. Pairing up with Harshil Dharmani, he played a key role in building a substantial total against Mumbai.

While Dharmani scored 169 off 28 balls, Chaturvedi played an impressive knock of 404 off 638 balls. Prakhar Chaturvedi formed a remarkable 290-run partnership with Dharmani and added 70 runs in a 152-run stand with Karthikeya KP.

Chaturvedi also shared a 41-run partnership with Samit Dravid, who has recently made headlines in domestic cricket. He became the first player to score 400 in the Cooch Behar Trophy final, tormenting the Mumbai bowlers with 46 boundaries.

Prakhar Chaturvedi expressed disbelief that he has achieved this feat and remains at a loss for words after breaking Yuvraj’s long-standing record.

“I still can’t believe that I have achieved it. I remember as a kid I watched MS Dhoni, and then like when I got to know that Yuvraj Singh scored 358, I had no words. And then to be able to do it now it feels unbelievable. I am still not able to believe it,” he said.
