‘He Needed to Chill Out …’, Former RCB batter slams Rajat Patidar for throwing away wicket

Aaron Finch hits out at Rajat Patidar for ‘throwing wicket away’ vs KKR

IPL 2024: Aaron Finch said that Rajat Patidar should have been a little more patient in RCB’s match against KKR on Sunday at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Patidar scored 52 runs off 23 balls with the help of 3 fours and 5 sixes before Andre Russell accounted for his wicket.

Rajat Patidar misread a slower ball from Russell and hit the ball straight down the throat of Harshit Rana at the backward point region. Earlier in the same over, Will Jacks also got out to Russell in an attempt to up the scoring rate.

After Royal Challengers Bengaluru lost the early wickets of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis while chasing 223, Patidar and Jacks restored sanity with a partnership of 102 runs.

But after both batters departed in the same over, the Kolkata Knight Riders came back strongly into the game and eventually won by 1 run. Finch said that Patidar would have waited for a few balls before going for his extravagant shots.

“He had to make sure that he batted 2 to 3 overs deeper for RCB to have a batter who is in. Yes, we have seen some huge scores and we have seen guys walking out and trying to smack the ball out of the park from ball one. But there has to be a strategy behind it as well,” Finch told Star Sports.

“You can’t be walking out and throwing wickets away, particularly in batters. It’s hard enough to get in, especially on a surface like that where the ball was holding enough and spinners were having an impact. Patidar needed to chill out for maybe 4 or 5 balls, get to the next over and then reassess. But you can’t afford to have two in batters get out in the same over,” he added.

With their 7th defeat this season, RCB kept languishing at the bottom of the table with 2 points and a net run rate of -1.046 thanks to wins in 1 out of 8 games.
