Sports Herina Injury Puts Surya Kumar Yadav out of domestic season, likely to miss few IPL games too

Star Indian batter Surya Kumar Yadav, who suffered an injury during the recent final T20I of the three-match series against South Africa in Johannesburg on December 14, 2023, has been ruled out of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 season and is likely to miss the first few matches of IPL 2024 as well.

The 33-year-old cricketer ranked No.1 in T20I batting and an integral part of the Mumbai Indians franchise in the cash-rich league has scored more than 600 runs in the 2023 IPL season.

As per the report, Surya Kumar Yadav is dealing with a sports hernia for which he is ready to undergo surgery in Munich, Germany, this week.

“Surya Kumar Yadav (SKY) was recently diagnosed with sports hernia. He is currently recuperating at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. In two to three days, he will fly to Munich, Germany to get operated for it. It means that he certainly won’t be playing for Mumbai this season in the Ranji Trophy and is likely to miss the initial games for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL”, a BCCI source was quoted as saying by TOI.

Last year, KL also suffered the same sports hernia, for which he underwent surgery in Germany in July. He has also not played a few games for a couple of months.

“With the T20 World Cup in June 2024, Surya will be given all the time to recover properly. He is crucial to India’s chances in the T20 World Cup,” the source added.

Surya made his T20I debut for India against England in March 2021. He scored 1164 runs in 31 T20Is played in 2022 and 733 runs in 18 T20I matches played in 2023. He is also nominated for the ICC Men’s T20I Player of the Year award.
