“Hopefully, We can Continue to Dominate”: Gautam Gambhir reacts to Rahul Dravid’s contract extension
Team India former coach Gautam Gambhir believes that head coach Rahul Dravid and his supporting staff’s contract extension is a “good thing”. The former batter stated that it wouldn’t have been wise to change anything just 7 months before the 2024 T20 World Cup, adding that he hoped to see India “dominate” further under Rahul Dravid.
All the speculations have ended, and it will be Rahul Dravid who will continue as India’s head coach for 6 months. His tenure ended after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup 2023. After the CWC final match, the former Indian captain confirmed that he was not thinking of continuing as the head coach. According to the reports, skipper Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar wanted Dravid to continue.
The BCCI official team approached Rahul Dravid about the extension on Wednesday and announced that the contracts of Rahul Dravid and his support staff have been extended. He joined as a head coach in 2021 after Ravi Shastri and India did well under him across all three formats. Well, it is a great decision, as Dravid and Rohit have created a certain environment for the team, and it will continue.
Gautam Gambhir Appreciates Rahul Dravid’s Decision
Along with Rahul Dravid, the contracts of batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhmabrey, and fielding coach T. Dilip have also been extended. The same supporting staff for the team that was there for them in the World Test Championship and CWC. Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir also backed BCCI’s decision.
Gambhir said, “It’s a good thing because the T20 World Cup is around the corner and you don’t want to change the entire support staff, and it is good that Rahul has accepted it. Hopefully, we can continue to dominate and play good cricket. and what India has done for quite a long period. And the T20 format is a different format, and it is a more challenging format.”
