Will Rahul Dravid Accept BCCI Proposal To Continue As Indian Team Head Coach?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has proposed an extension to Rahul Dravid’s tenure as Team India’s head coach. Dravid was appointed for a 2-year term as head coach which was completed recently with the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The legendary cricketer took over from Ravi Shastri after the 2021 T20 World Cup.

In addition to the head coach position, the BCCI team asks other coaching staff to continue their positions. Vikram Rathour, Paras Mhambrey, and T Dilip who have been integral to the Indian team coaching since 2021, are willing to continue in their respective roles such as batting, bowling, and fielding coaches.

Dravid’s continuation as head coach comes at a pivotal time for the Indian cricket team. If he continues, his immediate focus will be the upcoming South Africa tour, commencing December 10. This SA tour includes ODIs, T20Is, and two Test matches in Centurion and Cape Town. After this, India will face England in a five-match Test series and participate in the T20 World Cup in June 2024.

“The BCCI secretary Jay Shah had discussions with Dravid last week. Obviously, the fine print of the new contract is yet to be worked out,” a senior BCCI office-bearer earlier told PTI on conditions of anonymity. “But BCCI wants Dravid to go to South Africa with the Test team.”

“The contract will be worked out but the Test series is important and even if he doesn’t go for the T20I series in SA, he can join (the team) from the ODIs,” the source added.

Rumours About Dravid’s Head Coach Tenure Extension

After the completion of ODI World Cup 2023, speculations are turned about head coach position in India cricket team. Rahul Dravid could be replaced by other senior teammate VVA Laxman. He is presently in charge of India’s T20 team which is playing agaisnt Australia in five-match series at home.
