Mohammed Shami set to miss IPL 2024 after successful ankle surgery

On Monday Indian pacer Mohammad Shami underwent successful ankle surgery on his heel to repair his Achilles tendon, which he acquired during the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023. He said he would need time to regain full fitness and return to play cricket.

Yesterday evening, Shami shared hospitalized pictures on his social media handle, giving an update on his injury and informing his fans that he has undergone a successful surgery in the UK.

“Just had a successful heel operation on my Achilles tendon. Recovery is going to take some time but looking forward to getting back on my feet,” Shami said in his post on X.

Mohammed Shami is set to be ruled out for almost 6 months i.e. the pacer will not be able to participate in the IPL 2024 season. It is another loss for the runner-up Gujarat Titans. Shami who is not part of the T20, will also miss the T20 World Cup.

Gujarat Titans, who will already be without their skipper Hardik Pandya, will now miss the services of the Shami. With Rashid Khan also nursing an injury, the 2022 champions are not in great shape just before the tournament.

Shami was the top wicket-taker in the World Cup 2023. Being missing the first 4 matches of the tournament, he ended up as the leading wicket-taker with 24 including 7 in the semi-final match against New Zealand. The senior pacer will now be targeting a return to the New Zealand Test series in November before the all-important tour of Australia.
