Mohammed Shami, Deepak Chahar out of SA tour, BCCI announced the revised ODI and Test squads

In a recent development, the BCCI has revealed alteration to the men’s ODI and Test squads for the ongoing South Africa tour. Star bowler Mohammed Shami who was part of the squad for the two-Test series starting on December 26, has been declared unfit by the medical team. Consequently, he is going to miss the Test matches against South Africa.

“Mohammed Shami, whose participation in the Test series was subject to fitness has not been cleared by the BCCI Medical Team and the fast bowler is ruled out of the two Tests,” BCCI said in a press release.

Deepak Chahar Withdraws from the ODI series against South Africa

In another alteration, seamer Deepak Chahar has withdrawn from the ODI because of a family emergency. Akash Deep from India A squad competing with South Africa A has been declared as the Chaha’s substitution.

The BCCI stated, “Deepak Chahar has informed the BCCI that he will not be available for the upcoming ODI series due to a family medical emergency. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Mr Akash Deep as his replacement.”

Moreover, middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer will be available for the initial ODI of the 3-match series. After the conclusion of the first ODI on December 17, Shreyas will join the red-ball squad to prepare for the World Test Championship Tests. He won’t be available for the 2nd and 3rd ODIs but will take part in the inter-squad game.

India’s Test squad for South Africa tour: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan (wk), KL Rahul (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah (vc), Prasidh Krishna.
