PCB Sacks Entire Selection Committee After World Cup 2023 Failure

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) dissolved their entire selection committee on November 14 after a disastrous performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. Pakistan failed to qualify for the CWC semifinals for the third straight time. The Babar Azam-led side had contended with the fifth position on the points table.

According to many Pakistan media organisations like Samaa TV, and Geo Super, the PCB sacked the entire selection committee after the World Cup 2023 failure. Pakistan’s men’s team won the World Cup title in 1992.

Morne Morkel, the bowling coach of Pakistan resigned from his post on Monday amid a state of chaos in Pakistan cricket circles at the moment. Along with the chair of PCB Zaka Ashraf, a few other popular cricketers such as Younis Khan, Sohail Tanvir, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Hafeez conducted a high-profile meeting on Tuesday at Gaddafi Stadium to discuss the future of cricket in the nation.

Many Pakistan cricketers also have raised questions about the Pakistan Cricket Board liking foreign coaches. Presently, the team is working under the guidance of head coach Grant Bradburn, team director Mickey Arthur, and batting coach Andrew Puttick.

Pakistan’s team started the World Cup tournament with 2 wins, but they lost other 4 consecutive games, which almost closed all doors for them to reach the semis. Even though there is a slight chance based on the team’s performance, but it didn’t end in their favour. Eventually, they are in 5th position with 4 wins out of 9 games played.

It is the third time that Pakistan didn’t qualify for the WCW 2023 semifinals. PCB has taken a decision and sacked the entire selection committee with immediate effect. There are a few speculations that PCB is planning to fire the team’s director Micket Arthur.

This hasn’t been the way Pakistan would have liked it, as they started the tournament at the top ranking, but ended at the 5th place. There might be more such actions expected by the PCB in the coming days. It will be interesting if there will be any changes in the team and captaincy.
