Tough and Lots of learning: India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant gives his verdict on 2023

Indian wicketkeeper cum batter Rishab Pant described 2023 as being a tough one but he claimed that he has learnt a lot during the year.

On 30th December 2022, Indian cricketer Rishab Pant experienced a life-threatening car accident on the Delhi to Dehradun highway. The severity of the accident led to multiple injuries, including cuts on his forehead, a ligament tear in his right knee, damage to his right wrist, ankle, toe and abrasions on his back.

Pant’s accident impacted his cricket career by taking him out of major tournaments such as IPL 2023, where he was the captain of the Delhi Capitals franchise, Asia Cup, and the ODI World Cup. His recovery process started at Max Hospitals in Dehradun before he was moved to Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital for further treatment. His rehabilitation continued at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

By mid-2023, he was back on his feet and shared updates of his journey on social media, terming the accident as his ‘second birth’. The BCCI closely monitored his rehabilitation, which included strength training and batting practice.

He was perfectly right to return to the Indian team for the England tour in January 2024. Replying to a post on X, Pant said that 2023 has been tough for him but it has been filled with lessons.

Sourav Ganguly, DC Director of Cricket, has said that Pant would be back in time for the IPL 2024 season and will be back to captaining the side.
