IPL 2024: MI Former Captain Cheeky Photo After MS Dhoni Steps Down as CSK Captain

IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians ex-captain and current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma reacted to MS Dhoni stepping down as Chennai Super Kings captain with a story, posted on his official Instagram.

On Thursday, Rohit posted a picture of him along with Dhoni during an IPL match when they were both leading their respective teams MI and CSK.

Along with the story, Rohit posted the hand-in-hand emoji, which could be interpreted as both of them having said goodbye to IPL captaincies for their teams in the same year.

End Of Glorious Era: MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma Are No Longer IPL Captains

Though Rohit was removed as captain by MI management, probably against his wishes as he has remained the captain of the team India, MS Dhoni walked his one line, stepping down at the correct moment.

The IPL official social media handle, before posting the customary pre-season captain’s picture, announced that MS Dhoni, who has led CSK to 5 trophies in the richest cricket league would not be wearing the captain’s hat for this season and Ruturaj Gaikward would take his place.

Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni as IPL Captains

Both Rohit and Dhoni have won 5 IPL titles each, but the current Indian captain has had the better of the former Indian skipper when it comes to IPL head-to-head. MI has not only won 21 games against CSK’s 16 in 38 encounters between the 2 sides, but Rohit has also beaten Dhoni in the IPL record times.

While in 2013, 2015 and 2019, CSK lost to MI in the final and Dhoni was the skipper, Rohit’s side beat RPSG in the 2017 final of the IPL. Rising Pune Super Giants was led by MS Dhoni in 2 seasons 2016 and 2017 after CSK and RR were banned for 2 seasons by the Lodha Committee appointed by the Supreme Court of India.
