Virat Kohli Gesture Towards Retiring Dean Elgar

South African opener Dean Elgar played the last test innings of his career at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. Elgar ended his glorious cricket career with a knock of a mere 12 runs against India in the second innings. Leading the South African side in his final test match, Elgar got to bat twice on the first day, but he couldn’t make his last game memorable with the bat.

Virat Kohli caught South African opener Dean Elgar at first slip off Mukesh Kumar. Kohli’s gesture was enough to describe his humility towards Dean Elgar when saying goodbye to the Test cricket. Elgar tried to score just 4 runs in the first innings and managed to add 12 more in the second.

Virat’s gesture towards Dean Elgar

Virat Kohli after taking Elgar’s catch, bowed down to one of the best South African opening batters and then ran towards him to congratulate on his glorious test career.

Former Indian captain Kohli also hugged Elgar, while he was walking back to the dressing room. Other Indian players also rushed in to congratulate Elgar one by one.

Dean Elgar also received a standing ovation from the Newlands crowd and a guard of honour from the South African dressing room. Elgar had to take several body blows in his final test innings as bowlers were having a great day at Cape Town on Day 1. Elgar’s determination was enough to earn him the tag of one of the greatest openers.

Elgar played a total of 86 matches in test cricket and scored 5347 runs at an average of 37.92 with 14 hundreds and 23 fifties. India was Elgar’s happy-hunting opposition as he scored 1012 runs in 15 test matches against them.
