Wriddhiman Saha on Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan BCCI Central Contracts

Veteran wicketkeeper cum batter Widdhian Saha feels that a player cannot be forced to play domestic cricket if they are not interested in reacting to Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan’s snubbing from the recently announced BCCI annual contract list.

In an official statement, the BCCI mentioned that the duo were not considered for the annual contracts for 2024-25. While Ishan Kishan was part of the Indian team for the recent South Africa tour before opting out due to mental fatigue, Shreyas played the first 2 Tests of the ongoing five-match Test series against England.

“That is BCCI’s decision and the personal decision of the concerned players. Forcefully, you can’t do anything,” Wriddhiman Saha said about Kishan and Iyer’s axe.

Ishan was reported to be training in Baroda and missed the entire Ranji Trophy campaign for Jharkhand. Recently, Ishan returned to action via the ongoing DY Patil T20 tournament in Navi Mumbai.

After being ruled out from India’s squad for the last 3 Tests vs England, Shreyas missed Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy quarter-final vs. Baroda reportedly due to back issues, despite the NCA reportedly passing him fit.

Iyer has been named in Mumbai’s squad for the Ranji Trophy semifinal against Tamilnadu starting on March 2 at the BKC ground.

Wriddhiman Saha said a player should treat every match with equal importance citing his example.

BCCI has taken the right decision on Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer says Sourav Ganguly

“Whenever I am fit I play, even I played club matches, office matches as well. I always treat a match as a match. All matches are equal for me. If every player thinks on those lines, they will only prosper in their career and it will be better for Indian cricket as well,” he said.

“I feel the importance of domestic cricket is always there because if I talk about Sarfaraz Khan, he had scored plenty of runs in the last 4-5 years. He has delivered.”
